The 3 P's of Housing Affordability

Protections
This year, I organized volunteers for the Tenant Protection and Right to Organize Act, a campaign to expand protections to more Berkeley residents, as well as make it easier to form a tenant union - similar to a labor union, and helpful for dealing with maintenance problems and other issues.

Preservation
On the Planning Commission, I worked to support proposed laws to reduce the demolition of apartment buildings, and make sure that demolished rent controlled apartments are replaced by housing that's affordable to people with lower incomes.

Production
Berkeley needs more homes. I've been part of efforts to fund affordable housing and update city planning to allow more homes.  It takes both to reach jobs-housing balance, so that those who work or go to school in our city can find and afford homes here.
